B3 Artist Conversation- Grace Ha

Grace Ha is a young ceramics undergraduate student at CSULB. Something that I found very interesting about her was when I asked her what else she did besides ceramics she couldn’t find an answer, that is how invested she is in her art. Her ceramics career began 5 years ago in a community college. At first she was reluctant to choose it as a Major because it didn’t seem too stable, but after she got in the gallery show and made good money out of it she had the confidence to pursue this as a career.

Grace’s pottery really stood out to me. I noticed that it was very big and colorful, something I should consider buying in the future. It had various colors, but the black and white clearly stood out. Also, it was interesting that she actually put flowers in the biggest one, it gave it more life.

This one pottery design actually has allot of themes around it that make it special. First of all, it is big because she wanted to change the stereotype that only big and strong men could make big pottery. She gets comments once in a while of people that cant believe she actually made the big pieces of art and that inspires her to keep doing it. She also relies on technique more than brute strength. Also, she added the flowers last minute, showing quick thinking, but it was also good because it displayed femininity.

I think its very impressive how she doesnt need to use too much strength to do her pottery, it can inspire many other female potters to do the same. I absolutely love the color design and would love to see more flowers inside the pots to make them come to life more. I hope she can do this for a lonmg time and to keep getting motivation.

B2: Art Experience- Design Thinking

1- My first plan is to be a homicide detective for either LAPD,LBPD, or any other big police department in the US. My plan is pretty simple, about a semester before graduating from Long Beach State I would enter the academy and should be finished with it by the time I graduate. This should not be too hard considering I am on track to finishing all the hard classes so that my final semester is freed up more. I would then do parole for a few years before applying to be a detective for either arson, theft, or any other department. After a few years of that, I can be promoted to be a homicide detective, and enjoy both the thrill and the stress of finding out who committed such a grotesque of a crime as murder.

2- If the job of being a homicide detective for a big police department where to disappear tomorrow, then I would go into private investigation. Thanks to some connections I have the number of a very good private investigator, whom I would intern with for a few years. Furthermore, thanks to my two criminal investigation certificates, I have an edge over other people that might also want an internship with him. After that I would probably chose to work along side him and help him out with his cases. After I get enough experience, I would probably go at it alone and gain more money this way.

3-In a world where money was not an issue, I wouldn’t mind traveling the world from the east and making my way back to the US. I would offer to teach kids in underprivileged places, like Zimbabwe or Iraq, about anything from the word of God to math to English.

Beach Plaster Project Art 110

The project was allot more fun than I had expected. Though my final result was not what I expected, I was able to help people that came after me so that they can do a better job. This is my first time doing art in the beach and I quite enjoyed it , although it would have been better if there was a bit warmer. One of the ways I could apply this activity is by reading THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOWING THEM word for word. I didn’t take the measurements very seriously hence why my art project ended up a bit nasty looking. Next time I would just try to take my time and enjoy doing the project.
